Desymmetrizing Hydroformylation of Dihydromuconic Acid Diesters: Application to the Synthesis of (±)-Vindeburnol
The desymmetrizing hydroformylation of internal alkenes derived from dihydromuconic acid is described. The study of this reaction afforded easy access to polyfunction aldehydes. After the evaluation of the reactivity of the dimethyl ester derivative with various primary amines, this methodology was used to design a rapid synthesis of (±)-vindeburnol from tryptamine in only two steps.

An efficient procedure for the synthesis of formylacetic esters
An efficient synthesis of formylacetic esters via ozonolysis of trans-β-hydromuconic esters followed by a solid-supported triphenylphosphine reduction has been developed. The synthesis of bradykinin analogues is described in which the Gly4-Phe5, Phe5-Ser6 or the Pro7-Phe8 peptide bond has been replaced by a trans carbon-carbon double bond or by a "reduced" peptide bond.Some of the analogues display high potency and prolonged activity in the rat blood pressure test, indicating increased metabolic stability.A clear selectivity is obtained towards the myotropic effect in the guinea pig ileum.

Stereocontrolled construction of A.B.C.tricycle via transannular Diels-Alder reaction of 14-membered triene macrocycle
The synthesis of the four acyclic trienes 11a, b and 20 a, b is reported.The tandem macrocyclization and stereoselective transannular Diels-Alder reaction of acyclic trienes 11b (trans-trans-cis) and 20b (trans-trans-trans) were observed in the presence of Cs2CO3 at 85 deg C to give tricycles 30 (TST) and 32 (CAT) respectively.However, treatment of acyclic trienes 11a (cis-trans-cis) and 20a (cis-trans-trans) under the same conditions yielded the 14-membered macrocycles 21 and 23, which were stereoselectively transformed at 250 deg C into tricycles 22 (CST) and 24 (CAT) respectively in excellent yield.

On the Knowledge of the Catalytic Dimerization of Acrylic Acid Derivatives by Palladium Complexes. III. Reactions of β-Palladio Acrylates and Their Relation to the Catalytic Reaction
Complexes of the type L2PdCl(CH=CHCOOCH3) (L2 = 2PPh3 or Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2) were decomposed to dimethyl muconate by pyrolysis or by substraction of the phosphine ligands with (CH3CN)2PdCl2 in acetonitrile.The last mentioned reaction gave Δ3-dimethyl dihydromuconate in the presence of hydrochloric acid. Δ3-Dimethyl dihydromuconate was also formed by decomposition of (Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2)PdCl(CH=CHCOOCH3) with HBF4 in acetonitrile, but the analogous reaction in methyl acrylate as solvent gave Δ2-dimetyl dihydromuconate.Thus, we have simulated the formation of the two m ain products of the catalytic dimerization of methyl acrylate with palladium(II)chloride in a stoichiometric manner.Mechanisms with hydride and carbene intermediates are discussed.
