- Nitroxyl Catalysts for Six-Membered Ring Bromolactonization and Intermolecular Bromoesterification of Alkenes with Carboxylic Acids
-
We developed a nitroxyl-catalyzed bromoesterification of alkenes with bromo reagents, which includes a six-membered ring bromolactonization of alkenyl carboxylic acids catalyzed by AZADO as the nitroxyl radical catalyst, and an intermolecular bromoesterification of alkenes with carboxylic acids using NMO as the N-oxide catalyst. We also accomplished a remote diastereoselective bromohydroxylation via an AZADO-catalyzed six-membered ring bromolactonization and a subsequent ring cleavage reaction with alkylamines to furnish ?-bromo-δ-hydroxy amides with high diastereoselectivity.

- SOLID-LIQUID PHASE TRANSFER CATALYTIC SYNTHESIS OF α-AMINO ACID VIA ALKYLATION AND NUCLEOPHILIC ADDITION OF BENZALDEHYDE IMINES
-
A short, mild and efficient synthetic route of α-amino acid via alkylation, Michael addition and carbonyl addition as well as cycloaddition of aldimines derived from glycine and alanine esters with benzaldehyde under solid-liquid phase transfer catalytic condition has been studied. The key to solid-liquid phase transfer catalyzed reactions is the selection of a base for the various reactants. The yield is dependent on the base used. The results obtained using KOH, K2CO3 and Na2CO3 are discussed. The kinetics of solid-liquid PTC benzylation has been investigated and we propose a possible mechanism of solid-liquid PTC as an interface auto-catalytic procedure. The details of some syntheses of α-amino acids are presented.

- Specific Inhibitors in Vitamin Biosynthesis. Part 7. Syntheses of Blocked 7,8-Dihydropteridines via &α-Amino Ketones
-
The synthesis of 15 blocked 7,8-dihydropteridines is described in which the pyrazine ring is built from a derivative of an α-amino ketone.Three routes to the amino ketones based upon amino acids, nitrosyl chloride addition to alkenes, and nitro alcohols are discussed. The compounds synthesised are inhibitors of 6-hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropterin pyrophosphokinase , an enzyme in the pathway leading to dihydrofolate, and the inhibitory potencies of the compounds are discussed in the light of a hypothetical active site model for the enzyme.
