- INVESTIGATION IN THE REGION OF UNSATURATED COMPOUNDS. XIV. PRODUCTS FROM LOW-TEMPERATURE CHLORINATION OF 1,2,3-TRICHLORO-2-BUTENE IN THE PRESENCE OF FERRIC CHLORIDE AND TERT-BUTYLPYROCATECHOL
-
1,2,2,3,3-Pentachlorobutane and 2,3,3,4-tetrachloro-1-butene are formed during the low-temperature (-20 to 25 deg C) chlorination of cis- and trans-1,2,3-trichloro-2-butenes in the presence of anhydrous ferric chloride and tert-butylpyrocatechol.Chlorination is accompanied by isomerization of the 2,3,3,4-tetrachloro-1-butene to 1,2,3,4-tetrachloro-2-butene and also by the addition of chlorine to the tetrachlorobutenes with the formation of 1,2,2,3,3,4-hexachlorobutane.
