A NEW METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PYRROLYLACETYLENES
A new method was developed for the production of a previously difficulty obtainable class of pyrroles, i.e., pyrrolylacetylenes. The method is based on the discovered reaction between alkyl pyrrolyl ketones and phosphorus oxychloride in dimethylformamide, as a result of which α-chloroalkenylpyrroles are formed. The latter are converted by the action of alkali into pyrrolylacetylenes with high yields. When twice the amount of phosphorus oxychloride is used α-chloro-β-formylvinylpyrroles are formed. The stereochemistry of these compounds was studied.
