Lipophilic Lithium Ion Carrier in a Lithium Ion Selective Electrode
Gadzekpo, Victor P. Y.,Hungerford, James M.,Kadry, Azza M.,Ibrahim, Yehia A.,Christian, Gary D.
, p. 493 - 495 (1985)
A lithium ion selective electrode was constructed with N,N'-diheptyl-5,5-dimethyl-N,N'-bis(3-oxapentyl)-3,7-dioxanonanediamide as a lithium carrier.Dioctyl azelate, tris(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate, and triisononyl trimelitate were used as plasticizers.Selectivity coefficients of 0.063, 0.104, 7.1E-3, and 2.5E-4 are reported for sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, respectively, relative to lithium ion.A new and simpler procedure is reported for the synthesis of the lithium carrier.
Lipophilic Lithium Carriers
Shanzer, Abraham,Samuel, David,Korenstein, Rafi
, p. 3815 - 3818 (2007/10/02)
The design, preparation, and properties of a new series of lipophilic lithium ion carriers are described. The structure of these carriers is based on an acyclic system in which a hexafunctional lipophilic envelope is formed around the metal ion in an octahedral arrangement. The synthesis involves a series of condensation rections using a cyclic tin-oxygen compound as an activated diol precursor. The carrier properties for lithium ions were demonstrated by in vitro experiments on liposomes using a fluorescence assay. The potential pharmacological applications of these ionophores are discussed.
