TRITERPENOID SAPONINS FROM THE BARK OF ZIZYPHUS JOAZEIRO
Three new triterpenoid saponins were isolated from the barks of Zizyphus joazeiro and characterized as jujubogenin 3-O-α-L-arabinofuranosyl-(1->2)-3)>-α-L-arabinopyranoside, its 4'''-O-sulphate and 3'',4'''-di-O-sulphate, respectively.FAB-MS was useful in providing information on the molecular weight of the complex oligoglycoside sulphates.Key Word Index - Zizyphus joazeiro; Rhamnaceae; fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry; jujubogenin 3-O-glycoside sulphate.

New antimycobacterial saponin from Colubrina retusa
A new jujubogenin saponin was isolated from the stems of Colubrina retusa and identified as jujubogenin 3-O-α-L-arabinofuranosyl (1→2)-[3-O- (trans)-p-coumaroyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl (1→3)]-α-L-arabinopyranoside (4) on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic data. The antimycobacterial activity expressed as minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for compound 4 was 10 μg/mL.
