Ruthenium,tetracarbonyl-m-hydro[(1,2,3,4,5-h)-1-hydroxylato-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-2,4-cyclopentadien-1-yl][(1,2,3,4,5-h)-1-hydroxy-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-2,4-cyclopentadien-1-yl]diis used as a catalyst for hydrogen transfers, including disproportionation of aldehydes, reduction of ketones and aldehydes, oxidation and/or racemization of alcohols and amines.
Used in Transfer Hydrogenation:
Ruthenium,tetracarbonyl-m-hydro[(1,2,3,4,5-h)-1-hydroxylato-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-2,4-cyclopentadien-1-yl][(1,2,3,4,5-h)-1-hydroxy-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-2,4-cyclopentadien-1-yl]diis used as the Shvo catalyst for transfer hydrogenation, a process that allows for the reduction of carbonyl compounds to alcohols using a hydrogen donor and a catalyst.

Reactions

In conjugation with lipase, ruthenium catalyst used in the asymmetric transformation of ketones and enol acetates into chiral acetates. Dynamic kinetic resolution resulting from the ruthenium catalyzed racemization of enzymatically- resolved substrates. Conversion of secondary amines to primary amines in the presence of ammonia. Co-catalyt for aerobic lactonization of diols.
