Usage

General Description

2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethanethiol, also known as N-(2-mercaptoethyl)piperidine, is a chemical compound with the formula C7H15NS. It is a clear to pale yellow liquid with a strong odor and is commonly used as a reagent in organic synthesis. 2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethanethiol is primarily used as a building block in the production of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other fine chemicals. It is also utilized as a protective agent for sulfhydryl groups in proteins and peptides, as well as a precursor in the synthesis of cross-linking agents for polymers. Additionally, the compound has applications in the manufacture of surfactants, dyes, and rubber chemicals. However, it is important to handle 2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethanethiol with caution, as it is toxic if ingested or inhaled and can cause skin and eye irritation upon contact.
