Endrin is a highly toxic, non-systemic organochlorine pesticide that was widely used in the past to control various pests, particularly in agriculture and livestock. It is known for its persistence in the environment, resistance to degradation, and bioaccumulation in the food chain, which can lead to severe health and environmental issues. Due to its potential risks, the use of endrin has been banned or restricted in many countries. It is important to note that exposure to endrin can cause serious health problems, including neurological damage, and its presence in the environment continues to be a concern due to its long-lasting effects.

72-20-8 Usage

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 72-20-8 includes 5 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 2 digits, 7 and 2 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 72-20:
(4*7)+(3*2)+(2*2)+(1*0)=38
38 % 10 = 8
So 72-20-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Evaluation of lipase from Candida rugosa in the resolution of endo- (±)- 1,8,9,10,11,11-hexachloropentacyclo- [6.2.1.13,6.02,7.05,9]dodecan-4-alcohol

Costa, Valentim E. U.,Alifantes, Joao,Martins, Jose E. D.

, p. 2579 - 2585 (1998)

endo-(±)-1,8,9,10,11,11- Hexachloropentacyclo[6.2.1.13,6.02,7.05,9)]dodecan-4-ol (±)-7 and exo-(±)1,8,9,10,11,11- hexachloropentacyclo[6.2.1.13,6,02,7.05,9]dodecan-4-ol (±)-4 have been prepared and the enantiomeric enrichment capacity of the lipase from Candida rugosa in the transesterification with vinyl acetate of these compounds was evaluated. It was verified that the lipase recognize only the alcohol (±)-7, producing endo-(+)- 1,8,9,10,11,11- hexachloropentacyclo[6.2.1.13,6.02,7.05,9]dodecan-4-yl acetate (+)- 8 with ee >95% and conversion of 44% as the only product.
