Cadmium carbonate Uses

Cadmium carbonate (CAS NO.513-78-0) has been used for intermediates of manufacturing polyester, glass pigment flux, organic catalysts, plastic plasticizer, stabilizer, and, raw material for production of cadmium salt.

Cadmium carbonate Production

First, have the reaction of cadmium with nitrate and nitric acid to get cadmium, and then react with sodium carbonate to get cadmium carbonate , and then get the product by washing, drying and grinding. Its
8HNO3 +3 Cd → 3Cd (NO3) 2 +2 NO +4 H2O
Cd (NO3) 2 + Na2CO3 → CdCO3 +2 NANO3

Cadmium carbonate Specification

Cadmium carbonate (CAS NO.513-78-0) also can be called Otavite ; Supermikrokalcit ; Carbonic acid, cadmium (2+) salt (1:1) .And it is a rare cadmium carbonate mineral. Otavite crystallizes in the trigonal system and forms encrustations and small scalenohedral crystals that have a pearly to adamantine luster. Its specific gravity is 5.04 and the Mohs hardness is 3.5 to 4. Associated minerals include calcite, azurite, smithsonite, and malachite. It was first described in 1906 from the Tsumeb district near Otavi, Namibia.
Cadmium carbonate (CAS NO.513-78-0) is hazardous,so the first aid measures and others should be known.Such as: When on the skin: first, should  flush skin with plenty of water immediatelyfor at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing. Secondly,Get shoesmedical aid . Or in the eyes: Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Then get medical aid soon. While ,it's Inhaled: Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately.Give artificial respiration while not breathing. When breathing is difficult, give oxygen. And as soon as to get medical aid. Then you have the ingesting of the product : Wash mouth out with water, and get medical aid immediately.
In addition, Cadmium carbonate (CAS NO.513-78-0) is light sensitive with air,and can be stable under normal temperature and pressure conditions. It is not compatible with incompatible materials, and you must not take it with incompatible materials. And also prevent it to broken down into hazardous decomposition products: toxic cadmium oxide fumes.
