DL-Benzoin (CAS NO.579-44-2) has been used as analytical reagent, organic synthesis intermediate and preservative.
Mixed Benzene formaldehyde with Ethanol , and take Sodium hydroxide solution to adjust pH value of 7-8, then adding 3% of the Sodium cyanide solution. Then at the 75-80 °C refluxing 0.5h, cooled to 10 °C below for filtration. Take the cake being washed to non - Cyanide to derive the product, the yield of 90%.

DL-Benzoin , its cas register number is 579-44-2. It also can be called Benzoin tincture ; Benzoin ; and 2-Hydroxy-1,2-diphenylethan-1-one . It is hazardous, so the first aid measures and others should be known. Such as: When on the skin: should flush skin with plenty of water immediately for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing. Or in the eyes: Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. While, it's inhaled: Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. Then you have the ingesting of the product : Do not induce vomiting. If conscious and alert, rinse mouth and drink 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
In addition, DL-Benzoin (CAS NO.579-44-2) could be stable under normal temperatures and pressures. It is not compatible with strong oxidizing agents, and you must not take it with incompatible materials. And also prevent it to broken down into hazardous decomposition products: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide.
