    Properties:
    Fine, white to yellowish-white powder; faint characteristic odor. Mw 344.48, mp 155C, d 1.020. Insoluble in water, alcohol, and ether. Forms a gel with aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons.
     
    Derivation:
    Mixing solutions of a soluble aluminum salt and sodium stearate.
     
    Grade:
    USP, which describes it as a mixture of the monostearate and monopalmitate containing 14.5–16.0%

    Al2O3.

     
    Hazard:
    TLV: TWA 10 mg/m3.
     
    Use:
    Paints, inks, greases, waxes, thickening lubricating oils; waterproofing, gloss producer, stabilizer for plastics, food additive.
