    The positive electrode of an electrolytic cell, to which negatively charged ions travel when an electric current is passed through the cell. Such anodes are usually made of graphite or other form of carbon, although titanium has been successfully introduced in the chlor-alkali industry. In a primary cell (battery or fuel cell), the anode is the negative electrode.See Cathode; Electrode.
