Properties:
Orange-yellow needles. Mp 369C, bp 462C. Soluble in alcohol and alkalies; slightly soluble in ether and hot water.
Derivation:
By fusion of anthraquinonedisulfonic acid with caustic soda and potassium chlorate; the melt is run into hot water and the anthrapurpurin precipitated by hydrochloric acid.
Use:
Dyeing, organic synthesis.
