Maintenance of desired process conditions (temperature, pressure, etc.) by means of sensing devices that function either electromechanically (thermostat) or electronically (feedback). Applicable to many operations and processes in the chemical industries, such as petroleum refining, evaporation, distillation, heat transfer, electroplating, calendering, extrusion, and many others.
