Properties:
A quaternary ammonium salt. Colorless crystals; stable up to 135C, above which benzyl chloride and trimethylamine are formed. Properties of 60% solution: d 1.07 (20/20C), wt/gal 8.90 lb, fp below −50C. Readily soluble in water, ethanol, and butanol; slightly soluble in butyl phthalate and tributyl phosphate.
Grade:
60–62% aqueous solution.
Use:
Solvent for cellulose, gelling inhibitor in polyester resins, intermediate.
