An interdisciplinary science for which research facilities were established in 1971, encompassing the ethical and social issues resulting from advances in medicine and the biosciences. Its scope includes a number of areas of importance to chemistry, e.g., reproductive and genetic phenomena, organ transplants, gerontology and antiaging techniques, biological warfare, contraception, etc. The Kennedy Institute at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., is the chief center for information about this developing aspect of biomedical science.
