    To whiten a textile or paper by chemical action. Also the agent itself. Bleaching agents include hydrogen peroxide (the most common), sodium hypochlorite, sodium peroxide, sodium chlorite, calcium hypochlorite, hypochlorous acid, and many organic chlorine derivatives. Chlorinated lime is a bleaching powder used on an industrial scale. Household bleaching powders are sodium perborate and dichlorodimethylhydantoin.
