    (sodalite). A structure of sodium aluminosilicates often arranged in combined tetrahedra at the intersections of which are sodium atoms, with oxygen atoms at the midpoints. Such sodalite units often combine to form supercages. They are common and extremely effective catalysts. Many zeolites occur naturally, but synthetic types are tailor-made for special purposes and have particular catalytic functions.See Zeolite.
