    One of several surface-active substances in which the active constituent is the positive ion. Used to flocculate and collect minerals that are not flocculated by oleic acid or soaps (in which the surface-active ingredient is the negative ion). Reagents used are chiefly quaternary ammonium compounds, e.g., cetyltrimethylammonium bromide.
