| Fine, white to grayish-white impalpable powder; often formed in conical drops. Odorless; tasteless; stable in air. Mp (decomposes at 825C with evolution of carbon dioxide). Decomposed by acids; practically insoluble in water; insoluble in alcohol. Noncombustible. |

| By grinding native calcium carbonate to a fine powder, agitating with water, allowing the coarser particles to settle, decanting the suspension, and allowing the fine particles to settle slowly. |
