Its major purpose is to correlate data in such a way that trends or patterns are indicated. Molecular spectra, thermodynamic functions, and distribution of chemicals in the atmosphere in relation to rainfall are some fields in which this science has been utilized. Formal programs in chemometrics are underway at the University of Washington and Umea University in Sweden.
