Detailed information:
(1) A conglomerate of gravel, pebbles, sand, broken stone, and blast-furnace slag or cinders, termed the aggregate, embedded in a matrix of either mortar or cement, usually standard Portland cement in the U.S. Reinforced concrete and ferro-concrete contain steel in various forms.See Cement, Portland.(2) A waxy solid obtained from roses by extraction with nonpolar solvents (benzene) after trace quantities of solvent have been removed. When the concrete is dewaxed by a properly chosen second solvent (alcohol), the desired essential oil remains. This is called an absolute. See Absolute; Perfume.
