Skeletons of the coral polyps found in the warmer oceans and consisting mainly of calcium carbonate colored with ferric oxide. Coral rock is porous. It occurs in the form of reefs east of Australia and at other locations in the southwest Pacific. It has been found to be the habitat of organisms that are rich in prostaglandins.
