    Orange-yellow needles. Mp 183 C. Soluble in water and ether; soluble in alcohol.
     
    Derivation:
    The coloring principle from curcuma.
     
    Use:
    Analytical reagent, food dye, biological stain. As an acid-base indicator it is brownish-red with alkalies, yellow with acids (pH range 7.4–8.6); also an indicator for boron.
