A machine designed for expression of the oil from seeds such as cottonseed, flaxseed, etc., or for extracting the juice from fruits. It is similar in principle to an extrusion machine having a tapering screw rotating in a cylindrical barrel; the oil or juice is delivered to a container while the residual pulp and fiber are extruded as waste material. Fruit is fed into the machine after being crushed and preheated. Juices can also be separated centrifugally. Machines of this type are also called expellers.
