(FAB). One of several techniques for ionizing solids from solutions. In FAB, a thin film of the dissolved solid to be analyzed is bombarded with fast atoms. These dislocate ions by impact; the ions are then analyzed by mass spectroscopy. Peptide ions with molecular weight of approximately 6000 have been produced and analyzed by this method.
