    Properties:
    Blue to brown-black powder. Decomposes at 200C without melting. Soluble in alkalies, hot alcohol, or ammonia; slightly soluble in hot pyridine; insoluble in water, ether, and chloroform.
     
    Derivation:
    By dissolving hemin in dilute potassium hydroxide, precipitating with acetic acid, and recrystallizing from pyridine.
     
    Use:
    Biochemical research.
