    Properties:
    Colorless crystals, deliquescent. Mp 78–79C, bp decomposes. Soluble in water, alcohol, and ether; available commercially as a 70% solution, light straw-colored liquid, odor like burnt sugar, d 1.27, mp 10C. Combustible.
     
    Derivation:
    From chloroacetic acid by reaction with sodium hydroxide, or by reduction of oxalic acid. Occurs naturally in sugar cane syrup.
     
    Grade:
    Technical 70% solution, pure crystals.
     
    Use:
    Leather dyeing and tanning; textile dyeing; cleaning, polishing, and soldering compounds; copper pickling; adhesives; electroplating; breaking of petroleum emulsions; chelating agent for iron; chemical milling; pH control.
