(1742–1806). A French inventor of the first successful process for making soda ash. His patent was confiscated by the Revolutionist government, and the process was used widely for years without either acknowledgment or remuneration. His original formula was 100 parts salt cake, 100 parts limestone, and 50 parts coal.
