    Characterizing a material that readily goes into colloidal suspension in a liquid; if into water, it is called hydrophilic. The colloid is stabilized by the formation of an adsorbed layer of molecules of the dispersing medium about the suspended particles. Systems of this type are said to be lyocratic. Examples: glue, gelatin, milk-fat particles.
