Derivation:

A by-product in the wood-distillation industry, also synthetic.

Hazard:

Flammable, dangerous fire risk. Toxic by ingestion.

Use:

Solvent for nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, rubber, gum, resins; lacquers, paint and varnish removers, extracting perfumes, dewaxing natural gums.
