Mitosis

    Name:
    Mitosis
    Detailed information:
The division of a cell nucleus to produce two new cells, each having the same chemical and genetic constitution as the parent cell. The deoxyribose (nucleic acid) component of the chromosomes is present in duplicate in the original nucleus. The amount of nucleic acid is doubled just before cell division begins; subsequent events (called phases) permit separation of the products of replication to form the new nuclei. Each half-chromosome carries the identical nucleic acids of the original chromosome.See Cell.
