    (radionuclide). An isotopic form of an element (either natural or artificial) that exhibits radioactivity. Radioisotopes are used as diagnostic and therapeutic agents in medicine, in biological tracer studies, and for many industrial purposes, from measurement of thickness to initiating polymerization.
