The practice of returning a portion of the reaction products to the start of the system, either for the purpose of more efficient conversion of unreacted components or to reuse auxiliary materials that remain unchanged during processing. In the petroleum refining industry, some of the product stream may be recycled and blended with the fresh input materials to obtain a product of maximum value.
