| Sulfonation of β-naphthol with 94% sulfuric acid at 95C, yielding a mixture comprising chiefly Schaeffer acid (56%), R-acid (15%), and G-acid (10%). Separation is effected by dilution with water, boiling to hydrolyze the sulfonic acid group, and addition of metallic salts. | |
