Metal-catalyzed asymmetric epoxidation of allylic alcohols employing a system consisting of titanium tetraisopropoxide, (+)- or (−)-diethyl tartrate, and tert-butyl hydroperoxide. The epoxy alcohols are obtained with a high degree of optical purity (90%), and their absolute stereochemistry is predictable.
