In many of its alloying effects, tungsten is similar to molybdenum. Tungsten increases the density of alloys to which it is added.

Use:

To obtain steels with great wear resistance and special resistance to tempering, as in high-speed steels, hot-work steels, finishing steels that maintain keen cutting edge and great wear resistance, creep-resisting steels, and oxidation-resistant, high-temperature, high-strength alloys.
