An oil extracted from the seeds, fruit, or nuts of plants and generally considered to be a mixture of glycerides (e.g., cottonseed, linseed, corn, coconut, babassu, olive, tung, peanut, perilla, oiticica, etc.). Many types are edible. Being plant-derived products, vegetable oils are a form of biomass. Some are reported to be convertible to liquid fuels by passing them over zeolite catalysts.

Paints (as drying oils), shortenings, salad dressings, margarine, soaps, rubber softeners, dietary supplements, pesticide carriers.
