Generic name for a manufactured fiber in which the fiber-forming substance is any long-chain synthetic polymer composed of at least 85% by weight of vinyl chloride units, —CH₂CHCl— (Federal Trade Commission). It has good resistance to chemicals, bacteria, moths; unaffected by water and sunlight; low softening point. Tenacity 3.1 g/denier, difficult to ignite, self-extinguishing.See Polyvinyl Chloride.
