    Chemistry name:triformol; trioxin; metaformaldehyde
     
    Properties:
    White crystals; formaldehyde odor. Mp 62C, sublimes at 115C, flash p 113F (45C) (OC), autoign temp 777F (413C). Soluble in water, alcohol and ether.
     
    Derivation:
    By distillation of formaldehyde with an acid catalyst and extraction with solvent.
     
    Hazard:
    Moderate fire risk, explosive limits in air 3.6–29%.
     
    Use:
    Organic synthesis; disinfectant; nonluminous, odorless fuel.
