Iodine heptafluoride Production

Iodine heptafluoride is produced by passing F2 through liquid IF5 at 90 °C, then heating the vapours to 270 °C. Iodine heptafluoride also can be prepared from fluorine and dried PdI2 or KI to minimize the formation of IOF5, then refining by hydrolysis.

Iodine heptafluoride Specification

Iodine heptafluoride with cas registry number of 16921-96-3 is also known as Iodine fluoride (IF7) ; Iodine(VII) fluoride .It melt at 4.5 °C to form colourless crystals. It has an unusual pentagonal bipyramidal structure. The molecule can undergo a pseudorotational rearrangement like the Berry mechanism but for a hepta coordinated system.
