Preparation of Lanthanum(3+) trinitrate hexahydrate: it is prepared by reaction of rare earth chloride or ammonium salts of rare earth. Rare-earth ammonium salts is dissolved in sodium hydroxide, oxidated in air. Then reacted with dilute nitric acid. Product is obtained by extraction and crystallization.

Uses of Lanthanum(3+) trinitrate hexahydrate: it is used for the production of optical glass, gas lamps mantles and phosphor, preservatives. What's more, it is used as ceramic capacitors additive and petroleum refining catalyst.
