Ununpentium
Ununpentium General
Name:Ununpentium | Symbol:Uup |
Type:Other Metal (presumed) | Atomic weight:289 |
Density @ 293 K:g/cm3 | Atomic volume:cm3/mol |
Discovered:
Ununpentium was first made by research scientists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia in 2003 and by scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA. Scientists bombarded calcium nuclei with americium nuclei. Ununpentium (Uup) is a temporary element name until it is given an official name by The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). As a result of its position in the periodic table ununpentium is expected to be classed as one of the "other metals" with properties similar to bismuth. Too little of the element has been synthesized for this to be confirmed. |
