The research focuses on the synthesis and biological evaluation of various thiazolidone and thiazolylurea derivatives. The primary purpose of the study is to explore the potential of these compounds as inhibitors of oxidative processes in the tricarboxylic acid cycle and as anticonvulsants. The researchers synthesized a range of 2-arylimino-3-(p-chlorophenethyl)thiazolid-4-ones and (5-substituted-2-thiazolyl)acylureas, using starting materials such as 5-substituted-2-amino-thiazoles and acyl isocyanates. The compounds were then tested for their ability to inhibit the oxidation of different substrates in rat brain homogenate, as well as for anticonvulsant activity. The results showed that while these thiazolidones and thiazolylureas exhibited some inhibitory effects on NAD-dependent oxidations, their anticonvulsant activity was moderate, ranging from 20 to 40%.
