This research presents an efficient and environmentally friendly method for synthesizing 4H-benzo[d][1,3]oxazin-4-ones from anthranilic acids and aryl isoselenocyanates. The study aims to develop a mild synthesis process that avoids harsh reagents and maximizes yield. The key chemicals used include variously substituted phenyl isoselenocyanates and 2-aminobenzoic acids. The researchers optimized reaction conditions, finding that DMF as a solvent at 40 °C for 4.5 hours with 1.1 equivalents of 2-aminobenzoic acid yielded the best results. The study concludes that this method is highly efficient, producing 23 compounds, 18 of which are novel, with yields ranging from good to excellent. Additionally, the selenium powder precipitated during the reaction can be recycled for preparing aryl isoselenocyanates, enhancing the sustainability of the process.
