Description
This aporphine alkaloid, isolated from Nandina domestica Thunb. was originally
assigned the empirical formula C2sHlS06N2, subsequently reduced to that given
above. It forms deep blue crystals, the colour being due to the high degree of
conjugation present in the molecule. Recent investigations based upon chemical
and spectroscopic data suggest that the structure consists of mesomeric and
tautomeric forms of the structure shown above.
