• Description: macrophylla Wall. It is only sparingly soluble in most organic solvents with the exception of CHCl 3 but may be crystallized from pyridine by the addition of EtOH when it forms colourless, rectangular rods. It has [o:ID + 27.5° (CHCI3), a value of + 22° in the same solvent having been reported. The ultraviolet spec_x0002_trum exhibits three absorption maxima at 230, 260 and 294 mil in EtOH. The sulphate is crystalline with m.p. 263°C (dec.); [o:ID - 36.8° (H20); the 0- acetate has m.p. 2l5-222°C and the O-methyl ether, m.p. 202-7°C. The base contains, in addition to the hydroxyl group, one methoxyl, one acetyl and four methylimino groups.
