This research presents the synthesis and characterization of a suit[3]ane, a mechanically interlocked molecule (MIM), which consists of a benzotrithiophene derivative (THBTT) with three protruding hexyl chains as the body and a 3-fold symmetric, extended pyridinium-based cage, HexaCage6+, as the suit. The study aimed to explore the concept of mechanical bonding in MIMs and to investigate the mechanical stability of suitanes with flexible protruding limbs. The researchers concluded that the suit[3]ane they synthesized remained mechanically stable even at high temperatures in solution, demonstrating that flexible protruding limbs are sufficient for mechanical stability.
