It can be synthesized via asymmetric cyclopropanation of 2-methylpropene using a chiral iron carbene complex, achieving high enantiomeric excess (up to 92% ee). Additionally, it is enzymatically hydrolyzed from its ethyl ester by engineered esterases, such as RhEst1, to enhance production efficiency. (S)-(+)-2,2-DIMETHYLCYCLOPROPANE CARBOXYLIC ACID is also useful as a derivatizing agent for analyzing the enantiomeric purity of alcohols and resolving racemic mixtures like 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol.
